MetaMask Card
MetaMask · Mastercard
The MetaMask Card is a self-custody Mastercard: funds stay on-chain in your MetaMask wallet until the moment of payment. It comes in two tiers: the free Virtual tier with 1% cashback, and the $199/year Metal tier with 3% mUSD cashback on the first annual spending tier and 0% FX markup. The Metal fee, however, only pays off with high spending (above ~$830/month).

Strengths
- Self-custody: funds stay on-chain until payment
- Free Virtual tier with 1% cashback
- Metal tier with 0% FX markup + 3% mUSD cashback
- Supports Linea, Base and Solana
- Self-custody: funds stay in your wallet — the platform cannot touch them.
Weaknesses
- The $199/year Metal fee is worth it only above ~$830/month of spending
- 3% cashback only on the first annual tier ($10,000), then 1%
- Self-custody means full user responsibility for the keys
- Metal tier orders temporarily paused (since June 2026)
- Full KYC required: verified identity, zero pseudonymity.
- Subject to regulation (EURe/GBPe compliant (EU/UK)): reporting to authorities and freezes on order.
Verdict
The top rating reflects a balance that is rare for the segment: FCA oversight, EURe/GBPe compliance, transparent on-chain settlement and a two-tier offering starting with a free Virtual tier at 1% cashback. The caveats stand: the $199-a-year Metal fee only pays off above ~$830/month of spending, the 1% FX markup, and above all self-custody, which means full user responsibility for the keys.
Here MetaMask Card is at the top: funds stay on-chain in your wallet until payment, settlement runs on Linea, Base and Solana, and cashback reaches 3% in mUSD, with the highest privacy score in the group. Native self-custody is precisely the strength under this lens; full KYC remains the only concession to the regulated world.

FAQ
Are MetaMask Card funds held by a third party?
No: it is a self-custody card, your crypto stays in your on-chain MetaMask wallet until the moment of payment.
When is the MetaMask Card Metal tier worth it?
The $199/year fee is offset by cashback only if you spend more than about $830 per month; below that the free Virtual tier is the better choice.
