Strengths
- Soft KYC in ~2 minutes; coverage 170+ countries; 3 tiers.
- 0% FX across 18 LATAM currencies (announced Jul 2026, via rebate).
- No notable sovereignty advantage documented.
Weaknesses
- Punitive ATM fees $3+2%; Trustpilot 3.2/5; freezes reported; per the T&Cs a deposit is a sale of your assets to KAST (the balance is a contractual claim, not a deposit).
- Custodial: the platform holds your funds and can freeze or lose them.
- Full KYC required: verified identity, zero pseudonymity.
- Subject to regulation (Partners istituzionali (Fireblocks, BitGo)): reporting to authorities and freezes on order.
Verdict
The mid score reflects light and shade: institutional partners like Fireblocks and BitGo and a local EU regulator give it more structure than most, but punitive ATM fees of $3 plus 2%, a Trustpilot stuck at 3.2/5 and reported account freezes erode consumer trust. Full KYC and custodial, it is not a strong protection tool. The biggest weight is the T&C clause treating every deposit as a sale of your assets to KAST: the balance is a contractual claim, not a deposit, and in an insolvency the risk falls entirely on the user.
On the sovereign axis KAST is among the weakest in the category: KYC is full, the privacy score is low and custody sits with the service, so it gives ground on the anonymity and self-custody values that matter here. Its multi-chain coverage across 170 countries is broad, but does not offset the thin confidentiality.

FAQ
Is KAST a safe card?
KAST is a custodial card on the Visa network, but the T&Cs go beyond custody: transferring crypto into KAST is treated as a sale of the assets to KAST, with transfer of ownership. The in-app balance is a contractual USD payment obligation, not a deposit or guaranteed e-money: there is no deposit-guarantee scheme and, in an insolvency, you rank as an ordinary creditor.
How much does KAST cost?
The card has no annual fee. Issuance is free. The FX markup is 0.5%. See the tier table for full conditions.
Does KAST offer cashback?
Yes: cashback goes up to 3% in USD + KAST Points, depending on the tier.
Does KAST have 0% FX in Latin America?
KAST announced (9 July 2026) 0% FX on local spending across 18 Latin American currencies (ARS, BRL, CLP, COP, CRC, MXN and 12 others). Note the mechanics, though: it is not structural 0% but a rebate — KAST absorbs the fee ("we eat the fee", in the founder's own words) until local cards ship later. It is effectively an acquisition promo, so the real rate should be re-checked once the rebate ends.
Is KAST available in Italy?
Yes, KAST is available in Italy.
Is KAST custodial or self-custody?
KAST uses a custodial model, and under the T&Cs ownership of transferred assets passes to KAST: you do not hold the private keys and, formally, deposited assets are no longer yours — you hold a contractual claim against the company.
