Worth it if you want an affordable air-gapped hardware wallet (about €46) supporting 200+ chains.
Avoid it if you require fully open-source firmware or want to stay outside the Binance ecosystem.
SafePal is a budget hardware wallet backed by Binance Labs (early-stage investor). The S1 model (≈€46, $49.99) is fully air-gapped: it signs transactions via QR code with its built-in camera, with no Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC or data USB (USB-C is firmware-update only). It uses a CC EAL 6+ secure element with a self-destruct anti-tamper mechanism and supports 200+ blockchains through the SafePal app, integrated with the BNB Chain ecosystem. There is also an X1 model (≈€64) using Bluetooth instead of QR.

Weaknesses
- Only partial open-source transparency (firmware/SE not fully open); tight ties to the Binance/BNB Chain ecosystem; no dedicated desktop app.

Verdict
Score 4.0/5, solid profile. In its favour: among the cheapest air-gapped hardware wallets (≈€46); EAL 6+ secure element with self-destruct anti-tamper; 200+ chains; backed by Binance Labs. The trade-off to weigh: only partial open-source transparency (firmware/SE not fully open); tight ties to the Binance/BNB Chain ecosystem; no dedicated desktop app.
On the Sovereignty lens the score is 4.2/5 (very strong): the strength is fund control (5.0/5), while trustless / auditability (2.5/5) is the weak link.

Data breach: order data of 39,798 customers exposed and put up for sale
On 16 Aug 2026 SafePal disclosed a data breach caused by an authorization flaw in a third-party order-tracking plug-in on its e-commerce site: by manipulating the order number a user could view other customers' order data (a separate misconfiguration also prevented data cleanup between September 2025 and April 2026). Exposed data included names, email addresses, shipping addresses, phone numbers and purchase information of customers who ordered between 2 Mar 2025 and 11 Apr 2026. Seed phrases, private keys, passwords, bank details, card numbers, government IDs and funds were NOT exposed: wallet (self-custody) security remained intact. SafePal patched the flaw, cut data retention to 90 days, engaged an independent security firm, removed 30+ fraudulent sites/phishing links and notified customers by email. ⚠️ The stolen data is being advertised for sale on a cybercrime forum: the risk of targeted phishing is real.
