Verdict

A D ★ 4.1/5 ★ 1.5/5 Estimated net annual cost: €0/year

The high score reflects an issuer supervised by Austria's FMA, MiCA compliance, OAM registration, no annual fee and 0% FX markup: for the mainstream user it's a reliable, well-reviewed base (4.69/5 on the App Store). What holds the verdict back is the cashback design, a flat 1% on volatile crypto, paying nothing on stablecoins, fiat, metals and stocks and requiring you to hold at least 5,000 BEST, while ATM withdrawals cost 2%.

Through this lens Bitpanda loses ground: it's a custodial card with full KYC and no on-chain settlement, so funds stay under the platform's control and every transaction is traceable and potentially freezable. Tying cashback to staking the BEST token adds dependence on the issuer's ecosystem — the opposite of the trustless, self-custody logic that matters here.

Bitpanda states in its 2024 report that all deficiencies were remediated by Q1 2025; internal auditors nonetheless flagged ongoing non-compliance and documentation gaps. A further late-2025 review has no public outcome. No known fine.
