Webank Cartimpronta

Banco BPM S.p.A. (Webank) · Visa / Mastercard

3.7/5 1.3/5 · Data verified on

Cartimpronta ONE is one of the very few Italian bank credit cards that is genuinely free forever and with no conditions: you get it by opening the free Webank account, the digital bank of the Banco BPM group. It is a charge card (monthly settlement, no revolving) on the Visa or Mastercard network, with an indicative credit limit of €500–7,800. Non-euro purchases carry a 1.50% markup (plus any network fee), among the lowest on the market. The higher Gold Plus version costs €49/year with a bigger limit. No structural cashback, but the zero fee makes it one of the cheapest credit cards in Italy.

Plans & pricing

Strengths

  • Free forever with no conditions: extremely rare for a bank credit card
  • 1.50% foreign-currency markup, among the lowest of Italian credit cards
  • Visa or Mastercard network, widely accepted everywhere
  • Charge card (no revolving): no interest if you pay at month-end
  • No notable sovereignty advantage documented.

Weaknesses

  • Requires opening a Webank account: not available on its own
  • No cashback or points programme on spending
  • Modest initial credit limit (indicatively €500–7,800)
  • The Gold Plus (€49) waives the fee only with annual spending ≥€9,000
  • Traditional credit card: not self-custody — the account requires full KYC, a credit check, and can be closed or reported to credit bureaus by the issuer.
  • Full KYC required: verified identity, zero pseudonymity.
  • Funds can be frozen at the platform’s discretion.
  • Subject to regulation (Supervised bank (Banco BPM / Webank, Bank of Italy / ECB)): reporting to authorities and freezes on order.
  • FATF-aligned jurisdiction: strong cooperation with authorities.

Verdict

B D ★ 3.7/5 ★ 1.3/5

The Cartimpronta ONE is a positive anomaly on the Italian scene: a bank credit card that is genuinely free forever, with no spending requirement and a 1.50% FX markup among the lowest around. Being a charge card, there is no expensive-revolving risk. The only caveats: it needs the Webank account, there is no cashback and the initial limit is modest. On pure cost it is one of the best choices on the market: rating 3.7/B, rewarding transparency and a real zero fee.

A credit card is a credit line, not custody of funds: there is neither self-custody nor a user balance here. It is a fully tracked and censorable instrument — full KYC, a Banco BPM/Webank issuer (a supervised Italian bank) that profiles transactions and can suspend the line or close the relationship. On the sovereignty lens it is the opposite of trustless tools: no anonymity, no censorship resistance.

FAQ

Is the Cartimpronta ONE really free?

Yes: the Cartimpronta ONE has a zero fee forever with no spending conditions; you only need to open the Webank account (also free). The Gold Plus version instead costs €49/year, waivable with annual spending of at least €9,000. Always check the terms on the current summary document.

What fees apply to spending abroad?

On non-euro purchases Webank applies a 1.50% markup on the exchange rate (plus any variable Visa/Mastercard network fee, up to 1%). Cash withdrawals start from €3. It is a charge card, so there is no instalment APR.
