Scalapay — Paga a Rate

Scalapay IP S.p.A.

3.2/5 1.9/5 · Data verified on

Scalapay is Italy's leading BNPL service (a payment institution supervised by the Bank of Italy, no. 36018.0). It lets you pay in 3 instalments (€50–899.99) or 4 (€200–2,500) interest-free if you're on time. The "free", however, isn't zero-cost: the fee is borne by the merchant (not public, typically around 3–5%) and payments more than 24 hours late cost up to €6. Scalapay consults CRIF only for its longer plans (Pay in 6/9/12) and does not report regular Pay-in-3 payments. Under the new CCD2 directive (rules from 20/11/2026) much of BNPL will fall within the consumer-credit perimeter.

RISK: "0 interest" for on-time payers, but late payments cost (up to €6) and splitting spend encourages over-indebtedness.

FAQ

Is Scalapay's "pay in 3" really free?

For you it's interest-free if you pay on time, but it isn't zero-cost: the fee (typically 3–5%) is paid by the merchant, who tends to pass it into the price, and payments over 24 hours late cost up to €6. It's not a gift, it's a deferred payment.
