Plans & pricing

Strengths

  • Fee waivable with a clear condition: €0 in months with credits ≥€750 (and free anyway for the first 6 months)
  • Online SEPA transfers and online standing orders at €0, SDD direct debits at €0
  • Free db Card World debit card (Visa) included
  • 24 withdrawals per year free at other banks' ATMs in Italy and the SEPA area (then €0.50); Deutsche Bank ATMs always €0
  • Supervised bank with FITD deposit guarantee up to €100,000, Deutsche Bank AG group
  • No notable sovereignty advantage documented.

Weaknesses

  • Without monthly credits ≥€750 the fee reverts to €2/month (Digital) — low but not zero
  • Branch operations are expensive: SEPA transfer at the branch €7.00
  • Beyond 24 withdrawals/year, other banks' ATMs cost €0.50 (€2.50 outside SEPA)
  • The 3% on balances is a promotion with an expiry date (31/01/2027), not a structural rate; base rate 0%
  • Custodial: the platform holds your funds and can freeze or lose them.
  • Full KYC required: verified identity, zero pseudonymity.
  • Subject to regulation (IT banking licence (Bank of Italy)): reporting to authorities and freezes on order.
  • FATF-aligned jurisdiction: strong cooperation with authorities.
  • Closed source: no way to verify what it does with wallet and data.

Verdict

B D ★ 3.7/5 ★ 1.3/5

db Conto Promo is among the most honest branch-retail offers: maximum fee €2/month with a waiver tied to a single transparent condition (credits ≥€750), free Visa card and online transfers, 24 free withdrawals per year even off-network, and FITD €100,000 guarantee. As a traditional bank it retains branch-era costs (€7 transfer at the counter), and the promotional 3% should be read for what it is: a time-limited hook, not structural remuneration. Verified on the fee information document dated 12/05/2026.

Supervised bank account: custodial, full KYC, censorable and freezable by court order or AML obligation. The FITD guarantee and Bank of Italy supervision — strengths for protection — are exactly what distance it from the trustless model. No self-custody, no permissionless use: on the sovereignty lens it sits at the opposite pole from a self-custody wallet.

Italian competition authority: 4 million euro fine on Deutsche Bank S.p.A. over the “FAI +1%” campaign. The “1% prize on the total invested” promised to account holders was then paid out as an electronic voucher with usage limits, not as money. Fine upheld on appeal

AGCM decision no. 27977, meeting of 29 October 2019, case PS11401, published in Bulletin no. 46 of 18 November 2019. Between January and 19 April 2019 Deutsche Bank ran, on the internet and through TV spots and leaflets, a prize promotion offering “a prize of +1% on the total invested” to those bringing their capital to the bank. The prize was then delivered in a form different from what the headline claim suggested: an electronic voucher with usage limits, not a sum of money. The authority found the practice unfair under Articles 21 and 23(u) of the Italian Consumer Code, prohibited it, and imposed a 4,000,000 euro fine. The proceeding started from reports by the consumer association Altroconsumo and by a consumer; on 17 April 2019 the AGCM had already adopted an interim measure. Opinions of the Bank of Italy and of the communications authority AGCOM were obtained. OUTCOME OF THE CHALLENGE. The Lazio regional administrative court upheld the fine and the Council of State rejected the bank's appeal with judgment no. 4994/2025 (R.G. 922/2024), published on 10 June 2025, finding the amount appropriate: the AGCM had correctly weighed the size of the bank, the gravity of the breach, how widely the message was spread and the information asymmetries typical of the sector. ⚠️ Source transparency: we read the sanctioning decision in the AGCM's own official bulletin; the appeal outcome is reported by a single trade publication (AziendaBanca) with verifiable case identifiers, whose full text we could not open. `risolto: true`: the proceeding is closed and the fine is final after the last instance. ⚠️ Closed does not mean compensated: an antitrust fine goes to the State, not to the people who took up the promotion, and the card does not tell it as if it were a refund. WHY IT SITS ON THIS CARD AND NOT ON THE OTHER Deutsche Bank ones: it is a commercial practice, and it concerned the current account and the investment services of account holders — not the cards or the term deposit. Facts concerning the company as a whole, such as personal-data sanctions, sit on every card instead.

Italian data protection authority: 20,000 euro fine on Deutsche Bank S.p.A. for failing to answer a customer's request to access their own data (Articles 12(3) and 15 GDPR)

By injunction order no. 226 of 16 June 2022 the Italian data protection authority (Garante) fined Deutsche Bank S.p.A. (Milan) 20,000 euro. The established fact: a request to access their own data, filed by a customer on 13 July 2020 and sent by certified email, received no reply either “without undue delay and in any event at the latest within one month” of receipt, or by way of a communication of the reasons for non-compliance within the required time. Articles 12(3) and 15 GDPR were found to be breached. The bank's two defences were both rejected, and that is the instructive part of the decision: the fact that the request sat inside a longer, broader complaint does not make it invisible — the Garante found it clearly formulated and properly delivered; and the claim that the information was “already known” to the customer does not remove the obligation, because the right of access also serves to verify that the data are accurate. ⚠️ What this fact is NOT: it is not a data leak, no customer's data left the bank. It is a national authority's sanction over how the rights of the people whose data it holds were handled: the reason it is recorded — at `minore` severity, since it concerns a single request and the amount is modest — is that it concerns the company, not one product, and therefore applies to every Deutsche Bank S.p.A. card. `risolto: false` with `in_corso: false`, i.e. “open” rather than “under way”: the order dates from 2022 and the open sources consulted do not say whether it was paid or challenged. We state the certain fact and the unverified outcome, instead of pretending to know.
