CartaBCC Tasca / Tasca Conto (Prepaid IBAN)

Iccrea Banca S.p.A. (Gruppo BCC Iccrea) · Mastercard

3.2/5 1.1/5 · Data verified on

CartaBCC is the prepaid line of the Italian cooperative-credit world (BCC Iccrea Group, around 110 cooperative-credit banks). It comes in two versions: CartaBCC Tasca, the low-cost version WITHOUT an IBAN with a balance up to 3,000 € and issuance from about 5 € (set by the placing BCC); and CartaBCC Tasca Conto / Prepaid IBAN, the version WITH an Italian IBAN that allows SCT transfers, salary credits and direct debits, with a balance up to 14,000 €. Mind the cost of the IBAN version: the official fee sheet (n. 11, updated 10/12/2025) lists a maximum issuance cost of up to 30 € plus the first top-up cost (4 €), well above the ~5 € of the base Tasca. Neither version has a periodic fee, the foreign-currency markup is 2% and the network is Mastercard. Exact costs vary from one BCC to another: check the fee sheet of the placing bank. As e-money there is no FITD deposit guarantee: funds are protected through safeguarding.

Plans & pricing

Strengths

  • Two versions: Tasca without IBAN (cheap, 3,000 € cap) and Tasca Conto with Italian IBAN (up to 14,000 €)
  • No periodic fee on either version; Mastercard network and contactless
  • The IBAN version receives SCT transfers, salary and direct debits
  • Wide network of BCC branches for top-ups and support
  • No notable sovereignty advantage documented.

Weaknesses

  • Issuance costs vary by BCC: Tasca from ~5 €, but Prepaid IBAN up to 30 € (fee sheet n. 11)
  • Paid first top-up (4 €) and paid branch top-ups
  • 2% markup on foreign-currency purchases; no native cashback
  • E-money: no FITD deposit guarantee (safeguarding)
  • Custodial: the platform holds your funds and can freeze or lose them.
  • Full KYC required: verified identity, zero pseudonymity.
  • Subject to regulation (Prepaid card on an IT banking licence (Bank of Italy) — BCC Iccrea Group): reporting to authorities and freezes on order.
  • FATF-aligned jurisdiction: strong cooperation with authorities.
  • Closed source: no way to verify what it does with wallet and data.

Verdict

C D ★ 3.2/5 ★ 1.1/5

Average score (3.2/C). CartaBCC covers two needs well: the Tasca without IBAN as a cheap prepaid card for controlled spending (3,000 € cap), and the Tasca Conto/Prepaid IBAN as a card-account with an Italian IBAN for transfers and salary (up to 14,000 €). Its weak point is cost transparency: no periodic fee, but issuance that varies a lot by BCC and, on the IBAN version, reaches up to 30 € plus the first top-up (fee sheet n. 11). Add the 2% FX markup and the lack of an FITD guarantee (e-money): a good local product, but one to compare on your own BCC's fee sheet.

Prepaid card on an Italian banking licence placed by the BCC: custodial, full KYC, every transaction tracked and the card suspendable or blockable by the bank for AML or on court order. No anonymity, no permissionless use. On the sovereignty lens it is the opposite of a self-custody tool.

FAQ

What is the difference between CartaBCC Tasca and Tasca Conto?

The Tasca is the cheap version WITHOUT an IBAN, with a balance up to 3,000 €. The Tasca Conto (or Prepaid IBAN) has an Italian IBAN and higher limits (up to 14,000 €): it allows SCT transfers, salary credits and direct debits.

How much does CartaBCC cost?

There is no periodic fee. Issuance varies by placing BCC: the Tasca starts at about 5 €, while the IBAN version (Prepaid IBAN) can reach up to 30 € plus the first top-up cost (4 €) per fee sheet n. 11 (updated 10/12/2025). Always check your BCC's fee sheet.

Are funds on CartaBCC covered by the FITD?

No. CartaBCC is a prepaid card (e-money) placed by the BCC banks: funds are protected through safeguarding and are not covered by the up-to-100,000 € FITD deposit guarantee.
